First Blog Assignment

Due September 5, 2019

Hi my name is Samantha,

Welcome to my blog. I was born and raised in Kenai, Alaska. Growing up in the beautiful state of Alaska, I have had the opportunity to experience and observe many amazing things. A few of my favorite experiences include the following; fishing/boating, hiking, tidepooling and going to the beach with my family.

Throughout my life, being athletic and active have always been an important influence in my life. The two main sports I grew up playing were ice hockey and soccer. In fact, I played hockey for 15 years, and soccer a few less than that. In hockey, my position was goalie, which I absolutely loved. Of the 15 years I played hockey I was goalie for 10 of those years. These sports have not only helped shape me into the person I am today, but have taught me valuable lessons and life skills that I now use in real life.

Although I could list off many, one of my favorite hobbies is to travel. Traveling is so fascinating because it allows me to get to explore many different locations. Which allows me to learn about the different cultures and communities around our world. Although reading information about a location is fine, traveling is a great way to get a first hand experience of how the many cultures differ from our own.

For as long as I can remember I have always enjoyed doing arts and crafts. I enjoy many different forms of art. One of my favorite types of art is Photography. I have always enjoyed the different perspectives and designs that is inside one photograph. Photography allows me to go back in time to when the photo was, and lets me to reminisce on that memory. The other types of art I enjoy are; painting, drawing, paper crafts, and pottery. I don’t own a specific piece of art, but I do enjoy going to art museums to admire the different forms and types of art. I also believe that traveling is also a great example of art. From getting to experience the different sculptures, and the beauties of the location, to the different vibe that the people let off.

I believe art is so important to our society because we are constantly seeing it in our daily lives and it’s shown in so many different ways. Most art forms allows the audience to decide what they believe the artist has meant by that piece, or what that piece means to them. I don’t attend first fridays, but I’m sure they are very interesting and intriguing.

I believe the website I chose fits perfect for art form of photography. One of my favorite items to photograph are beach landscapes.

  1. I couldn’t agree with you more about the importance of art in society. I was just at the imaging center today and was taken by how much art they had on their walls, the majority by Alaskan artists.

  3. Hi Samantha,

Reading your post reminded me that photography is an art form. I knew that already but didn’t really give it any thought. And it reminded me of wandering around Montana with my Pentax K1000 taking all kinds of pictures and learning about f stops, depth of field, shutter speed, using physical film. I miss film, digital just doesn’t feel the same to me.
